Oreo Cheesecake Loveliness

It’s that time of year again, Mr. A’s Birthday. Every year I like to surprise him with his birthday cake. For the previous 11 months I’m scanning every baking book, blog and magazine on the hunt for the perfect birthday cake for him. As I’ve told you before, if it ain’t chocolate, he isn’t interested, so each cake is generally chocolate based. This year, I was lucky enough to stumble on this winner – a White Chocolate Cheesecake with an oreo crust. As well as being a chocolate lover, he is an oreo fiend, so this is just the ideal cake.

The Cheesecake is a New York style baked Cheesecake and took no time at all to knock together. The most time was taken up waiting for the cake to cool (My baked cheesecakes always crack, did you know you can help prevent that by leaving the baked cake in the oven with the door ajar and let it cool slowly? What a handy tip, although mine cracked a little 😦 ). The recipe is available free from BBC Good Food, although I slightly altered mine by not adding a final layer of sour cream to the top (too difficult for candles to stay upright in).

I may be incredibly cruel by posting about this cake, as January is the time of post Christmas diets. It is just so decadent and crammed full of calories, but the thing to do is cut small slices and invite lots of people around so that it’s not on the fridge shelf tempting you every time you go to get some milk. Genius.

I’d highly recommend it 😀 And you could easily make it substituting you favorite cookie for the base. I think I might try ginger cookies next time to cut through the sweetness of the white chocolate.
I’m crossing my fingers for an empty house soon so the cake and I can have some alone time 😛

      Happy Baking!
