The Big Cake Debate

My yearly dilemma has begun – what type of cake do I bake for my birthday? (yes, I bake my own birthday cake. I used to be sore about it but I’ve come to terms with it now. In fact, I love planning MY perfect cake, rather then what other people want). Last year, you’ll remember I baked a delicious creation of Sophie Dahl. And it was gorgeous, and just what I like in a birthday cake. Something rich with buttercream but light with fruity flavours (no chocolate cake for me thanks).  How gorgeous is the cake above? I love the idea of draping bunting around it. If you’ve been following me on Pinterest, you’ll see that I’ve been pinning a heck of a lot of yummy looking cakes in anticipation. But which to choose? I only have on cake to bake. How do I choose just one? Do I go with cake, cupcake or even roulade? Vanilla, Blueberry, Coffee or Caramel? As quandaries go, this is definitely the nice kind. I’m salivating at the thought of all these. Hmm. I’d better go get my pen and paper and start a pro/con list…

A Quarter of a Century Birthday

How time flies. I’m 25. I remember when I was little thinking that by the age of 23 (which was ancient or so I thought) I would have achieved everything in life (career, marriage, money, lovely possessions, travel and the like). But here I am, two years after my deadline and feeling like I’ve only hit on the tip of the iceberg. I’ve had fun doing it, but when you reflect, you think ‘why can’t I do things like that all the time?’ A new adventure everyday.

But as a friend pointed out. Just look at all the things I’ve achieved in the past 25 years (walking, talking, thinking and the like), so surely only more monumental things are to come. I hope so! So raise a glass to moving on, and searching out new adventures in life, because you don’t get many quarter centuries of your own.

To end this post, I thought I’d show you birthday peonies (so lovely) and my birthday present from Mr. A (even lovelier). He found it all on his own without prompting. Either the guy is pretty lucky or he has started listening when I drone on about all the awesomeness in the crafty world. The artist’s name is Amanda Coleman and she creates the most charming and quirky jewelry. So I’m off to eat and wear cake. Happy quarter century to all those 1985 babies.

Stitch Markers with Taste

I’ve discovered another use for my delicious cupcakes; stitch markers! For all my time knitting, whenever I’ve needed a stitch marker I’ve always paniced, going ‘yipes, now where did I put them?!’ So I’ve always ended up using pieces of string or safety pins. And finally, I have respectable, dedicated markers. And aren’t they sweet as pie?! Using tigertail keeps them nice and flexible too so I can use they on any project with any type needle. What do you think?

P.S. My cardi is coming on nicely. I see a final reveal before the end of the month. Watch this space.

*** Update ***

My little Etsy Shop is now open and selling these delicious stitch markers –Charming Cupcakes and Traditional Sticky Buns in sets of 4 for £4.50
